I recently returned home from a lovely 10-days in Greece, and I thought that, for a change, I would blog about what I wore on holiday. I love seeing sewists’ holiday wardrobes, so I hope it will interest you too.
Apart from just one bikini, I took an entirely memade wardrobe with me, including underwear. We’ve been to the same resort many times, and we knew we were in for some high temperatures, so I packed accordingly. We weren’t wrong. Most days it was in the mid 30s and unusually humid too.
My husband and I are often total beach bums on holiday (we’ve done lots of trips in previous years). This year was no exception, as we lazed on the beach reading, swimming, doing crosswords or sudoku and of course snoozing. My daytime outfit was the same formula each day. I wore a bikini, a kaftan, a bucket hat and flip-flops (and of course a lot of sunscreen).
I took 4 bikinis. One was store-bought; the others I sewed myself. I used my usual bra pattern for them all, which I adapted to have a halter-neck strap, and of course I used the correct swimwear fabrics and elastics.
I took 4 kaftans which I’ve sewn over the last few years. Each one was sewn from a sarong. The green one was a sarong bought from eBay, and the others were sarongs bought in our resort. I love that some of them have Greek sea turtles on them, or Caretta caretta, as they’re known in Greece.
In the evenings, we would stroll into town and pick a restaurant to eat in. I packed a selection of dinner outfits: 3 dresses, some co-ords, and a few separates. I used linen, linen/viscose blend or cotton for all of them. I did actually pack 2 pairs of trousers too, but I never wore them as it was too hot…I needed the air on my legs :). Oh, and every item I took has featured on my blog at some point.
I mixed and matched some of the items that I took, and I loved how everything worked together. I managed to take some selfies most days, though the photos aren’t quite my usual standard, but I’m sure you’ll forgive me 🙂
You’ll notice that one outfit is depicted as a sketch. That’s deliberate because it features a new make that will appear in my next blog post, so I didn’t want to give too much away. Come back and check it out when my post goes live 🙂
As you can see, a cocktail or two…or three, was consumed 😉 And as for the food…so many delicious main courses and desserts!

And finally, I must mention all the lovely Greek kitties that we saw. I noticed that there were fewer this year, and they all seemed well and cared for. Most of them had one tipped ear, which means they’d been part of a TNR programme. I called the cute one on the right in this photo Henry. He was super cute and loved some fuss.
