Browsing Some New Autumn Patterns

I had planned on doing a different blog post this week, but unfortunately, that plan fell by the wayside when a virus that I caught on holiday flared up worse when I got home. No sewing has been done and my energy levels have been way down. To add to the mood, we’ve had dull and rainy weather here in the UK and it even looked Autumnal outside this morning. Anyway, my brain fog and mood lifted considerably when I saw both Mimi G’s two new Simplicity patterns and the latest Burda collection.

After that, I just had to take a look at a few other pattern brands and found some lovely new styles to get my creative juices flowing.

***Please note, that some of these patterns have literally only just been released in the US and it might take a week or two before my UK sewing friends can get their hands on them. Also, my lovely sewing friend Sewmanju points out in the comments that the Laura Ashley for McCall’s dress is in fact only for Canada and US. I’ve left it in for inspiration though and for my overseas readers. (#mustreadthesmallprint!) ….***

So without further ado, here are a few that took my eye and had me dreaming of new fabrics too.

First up, the latest few releases in a Burda collection called Retro Mix. I literally want to make everything in this collection. I adore it! I have all the heart eyes for that little short coat and the dresses are lovely. I’m imagining wonderful tall boots worn with them. I also love the skirt with zipper detail. In total there are two dresses, two skirts, a top, a jacket and a pair of trousers. Here are a few of them:

🙁 Apologies, the links for the Burda patterns may no longer work due to the brand new Burda website (as of Oct 2019) missing the pattern bundles so I had to remove them. Individual designs from the bundles are probably still available though.

Next up is Simplicity. To start with, Mimi G has two new patterns with Simplicity and both are fab. The coat dress combo is a great modern version of a classic and the cropped sweater, apart from looking good with the longer skirt would be great with culottes or high waist jeans. Simplicity also has two more great coat patterns that looked like good Autumn/Winter staples and finally a handy wrap skirt pattern with buckle detail and length options. I have some lovely wool tweed just waiting for it.

On to Vogue next and my eye was drawn to some dresses and a coat. I love, love love the colour-blocked first dress by Tom and Linda Platt… Isn’t the 70’s vibe of the next two dresses great? Particularly the example of the one in crushed velvet…luxe! The pleated skirt and obi belt on the pinafore style dress really elevate it. Lastly in this range…how fab is that coat by Rachel Comey! Think of the different ways you could combine fabrics. I can imagine faux leather as one option.

Finally, a few patterns from McCalls. It looks as though the bomber jacket trend is here to stay with M7637…that pattern has to be mine. And I’m loving the top variations of M7630. Also how great is the full skirted dress in M7627, with options to make it as a top too. I’m also loving the glam 70’s vibe of the maxi dress in M7624.

I had come back from my holiday with a bad case of ‘Lost Sewjo’ but seeing all of this lovely inspiration has really kick-started it for me. I hope you feel inspired too?

Really like the simplicity patterns and the big sleeved McCalls one but I don’t think we get the Laura Ashley patterns here in the UK, do we?

Oh no. That’ll teach me to read the small print Manju! However, I won’t edit out the pattern from my post as it’s lovely inspiration and any of my readers in the U.S. can get hold of it. The rest of us will have to get a U.S. based friend to send it over 😉

That Simplicity 8469 has gorgeous sleeves – I’m glad to see the sleeve trend is going strong into fall. I am also in love with the Tom and Linda Platt dress, and it looks like it might be a fairly easy sew. The Rachel Comey 1556 looks like a fresh, modern take on a jumper – a style that works great for work. Nice selections!

Thanks Karie. Yes, I think the sleeve trend is on going for sure. I agree about the colour blocked dress. It looks like a standard princess seamed base to me and I’m glad you like the RC dress too. I’ve seen a lot of that sleeveless layering style.

I see lots of pretty colours here. I do like V1556 – I haven’t seen a style like that before – just lovely!

Agreed Linda, the colours are lovely, aren’t they? And I’m rather taken with V1556 too. McCalls posted a photo of the inside of it on IG yesterday and the finish was amazing!

I’m going to make the first Burda dress (probably tracing from the magazine yuk!) but I also think the little jacket is really cute, though I have about 6 jackets already!

I know what you mean Mags. I probably have enough jackets too! I’m definitely going to make two or three things from the new Burda collection though. I have tracing paper at the ready….
